FAQ

  • We base are fees on a tier:

A general psychologist costs $190 per session in the daytime and $210 out of hours. A rebate of $96.65 is available with a Mental Health Treatment plan.

A senior general psychologist costs $210 per session in the daytime and $230 out of hours. A rebate of $96.65 is available with a Mental Health Treatment plan.

A Clinical psychologist costs $260 per session in the daytime and $280 out of hours. A rebate of $141.85 is available with a Mental Health Treatment plan.

  • No, you do not need a referral. You can book an appointment with a psychologist without a referral from your GP. If you decide to do this, you will not be able to receive a rebate from medicare.

  • Medicare
If you have a referral from a GP for a Mental Health Treatment Plan you will be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate of $141.85 (for a clinical psychologist) and $96.65 (for a general psychologist) per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

    Private Health Insurance
If you have private health insurance that includes psychological counselling as extras cover you may be eligible for a partial rebate. It is recommended you contact your individual insurance provider for more information about your coverage.

  • You will need to make an appointment with your GP who will assess whether you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Most reasons that a person will want to attend therapy for, such as anxiety, depression, or grief, will be eligible for a plan.

To claim the Medicare rebate for your session, bring a copy of your Mental Health Treatment Plan to your first appointment with your psychologist.

  • Every person has a different journey through therapy. This largely depends on why they are coming in and what they hope to get out of sessions. It is best to attend an assessment session and discuss with your psychologist how many sessions they recommend.

  • Sessions are approximately 50 minutes long, allowing your psychologist 10 minutes to write your case notes.

  • All information that you disclose in your session with a psychologist is confidential. There are two exceptions to this rule. The first exception is if you are at risk of harm to yourself or someone else and the second exception is in relation to court orders. If either of these situations becomes relevant your psychologist will discuss this with you.
